    Lunch & Nutrition

We are an A.P.P.L.E. School (Alberta Project Promoting active Living and healthy Eating program) and strive to provide our students with daily healthy snacks and education regarding active living and healthy eating.

Sherwood provides a lunch program for students, which includes supervision and lunch hour activities for $10 a month.  Students must bring their own lunch.

Sherwood is part of the FOOD FOR THOUGHT organization which provides healthy food for Sherwood School students.  This program provides fresh food that we use in our daily snack program for all students as well as meets the needs of some of our individual student needs for lunch.

We also offer a daily BREAKFAST and READING club, through BREAKFAST CLUBS OF CANADA who are generous with their donation of monies to offset costs.  All these programs we offer at no cost.

Welcome

Welcome to Sherwood School!  We are a vibrant community school and fulfill an important role in our community.  As the future educational opportunities of students are linked to their elementary school experiences, our challenge is to develop a student's basic skills, a positive self-concept and to provide a set of experiences that will provide students an opportunity to achieve success. Sherwood School values its volunteers and its relationships with community agencies.  Student growth is enhanced through these partnerships.  Parents and community members alike are encouraged to visit our school to see the wonderful learning that takes place in Sherwood School.

Principal's Message

As the principal at Sherwood School, I am committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment with quality teaching and learning and a belief in the possibility of each and every child.  The staff at Sherwood encourage children and each other to discover their strengths and talents to be the very best that they can be.  We believe in the shared responsibility of parents, staff, students and community to maximize learning and growth for students. We have high expectations for academic achievement, personal conduct and success, and focus on the whole child. We are dedicated to our children and they are at the heart of our decision making.

We are a Leader in Me School that embraces the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People as a way to grow, learn and lead at Sherwood. We ask our entire school community to work hard and be kind and to always treat each other with dignity and respect. We believe that every child is a leader and that every child can learn. We are also an Apple School and are dedicated to healthy eating and active living. We provide a breakfast club for those in need through the support of Breakfast Clubs of Canada and Food For Thought and we also have healthy snacks as a part of every day. Please support us with sending healthy lunches and snacks for your children.

The partnership between home and school is foundational and we work to establish and maintain open and honest communication in order to have a caring and physically/emotionally safe environment. Your support and encouragement will make a difference in the success of your children.

If you have any questions or concerns I would encourage you to contact me personally at 780-489-2600.  Your ideas and concerns are appreciated and you are always welcome for coffee and conversation.

Dr. Maureen Yates, Principal
